Developmental errors in aggregate trending models

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

As discussed previously, while model overlays are typically most useful for analyzing the growth pattern and potential strategies of specific businesses or within more localized market segments, aggregate trending models tend to be most useful for identifying potential model anomolies within related market sectors and predicting the likely future existence of breakthroughs that could lead to rapid acquisition of market share.

The downside is it is still nearly impossible to predict WHAT those breakthroughs will be other than by using relatively new analyis techniques.

And that’s still a big problem. In order to undertake proper development of models to analyze aggregate trending models, multiple output scenarios have to be posited and “assumed” to some degree, but other than comparing the model results to real world results it is for the most part very difficult to accelerate the detection of predictive differences off the posited models.

Limited release of production data subsets

Friday, September 19th, 2008

We’re pleased to announce that within the next week or so RobCrush will start publishing limited releases of production data subsets. These are production data sets that have been verified as having gone through the following:

  • Initial test plan walkthrough.
  • Test data review.
  • Proper test enivronment to product migration path.

By the way, we’ve heard a lot of complaints about the complexity and number of migration paths to choose from based on which piece of the RoboCrush system you’re working on. We understand this and once again we will be automating much of this into a pretty-much fail-safe system (never say never, eh?).

We’ll also be formally opening up the blog to a moderated feedback status and see how that goes.

Server down, sites down…no problem

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

Well, it had to happen…but did it have to happen so early in the game? LOL.

Servers went down, subsites went down…no problem. The apache service was down and it was just a simple restart and the domains are loading fine.

Looks like the subsites were only down for 10 minutes.

Ready, Set…wait!

Monday, July 21st, 2008

Well, it’s been an interesting weekend to say the least.

In order to get ready for the first phase of beta testing we’ve been busy reviewing the troubleshooting software and ticketing procedures, including a systematic way and structured way to name the incidents.

We’ve come up with a system based on alphanumeric prefixes, random middle numbers, and alphanumeric suffixes. That will be explained in the initial instruction sets we send out for review.

We’ll be starting out by developing some “mock” errors in order to first test the beta testers knowledge of the reporting procedures, including the incident-report naming convention we’ve decided on.

One thing that should make it easier is that the programmers have put in drop-down menus for the first and last parts of the incident signifiers.
